Account and permissions
Create custom fields
Add business-specific information to records.
Before you start
You need permission to manage fields. Custom fields supplement standard fields; they do not replace them.
Step by step
- Open Settings → Custom fields, or Manage fields in the relevant area.
- Choose the record type: contacts, customers, team members, tasks, tickets, products, or sales.
- Create a field with a name, type, and help text.
- Set whether it is required and add choices for selection fields. Arrange fields in a useful order.
- Save, then open a supported create or edit form in that area to check it.
- Archive a field you no longer need. You can restore it without losing saved answers.
Choose the area and field type first
A field belongs to an area. A contact field does not automatically become a product or task field. First choose where it will be used, then choose a type: text, number, or selection should match the information the team needs to enter.
Making it required affects forms that request that data. Use help text explaining what to enter and selection options that do not overlap. After saving, open that area’s create or edit form to verify it. When no longer needed, archiving removes it from use without treating historical data as if it never existed; use restoration when appropriate.
What to expect
The field appears in supported records and forms for the selected area.
Troubleshooting
An existing field’s type cannot be changed. Create another field when you need a different format.
Custom fields are not calculated fields and do not automatically add table columns or filters.
