Lead capture
Save Partial Responses and Find Drop-Off Points
See where people stop filling out a form and choose whether an unfinished response should create a lead.
Before you start
You need a form and access to its settings. Creating a lead from a partial response requires an email address or phone number.
Step by step
- Open Forms, select the form, and open Settings.
- Review Partial responses. It is on by default and keeps answers even if the person never submits.
- Turn on Create the lead even if they don’t finish only if you want those contacts added to your pipeline. This option is off by default.
- In Responses, filter by partial or complete status and open a response to see where the person stopped.
- Check the drop-off panel to compare starts, completions, and drop-offs by question.
What counts as a start
The first answer starts a record; opening a form does not. Submitting turns the partial response into a complete response without duplicating it. Preview responses are not saved.
What happens to the lead
With early lead creation enabled, an email address or phone number creates a lead with the form as its source. An existing lead stays in its current stage until submission.
A partial response does not send Slack alerts, fire the form-submitted event, send Meta events, or run the final redirect. It can have a score and temperature. Creating a new contact can trigger rules based on that event.
What to expect
Unfinished responses are labeled, so you can identify where people drop off. CSV exports include response status.
Troubleshooting
If a response is missing, confirm that at least one question was answered outside the preview.
If no lead was created, check the early-creation setting and whether an email address or phone number was supplied.
If final submission fails, answers remain available to retry. Check that the form is published and its pipeline has at least one stage.
